About Sashū

The idea for Sashū the label was born in 2020 when the world unexpectedly turned. The fashion industry took a big hit, and suddenly there was more textile waste than ever before. Even prior to this, the fashion industry had contributed to leading causes of pollution, with 85% of all textiles ending up in landfills. Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions and is the world’s second-largest water supply consumer. Not to mention washing synthetic fabrics like polyester (estimated to be found in 60% of garments) releases 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year. This is the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles. With sobering statistics like this, we knew the fashion industry needed a change.

Sasha Bilida, the founder of Sashū the Label, grew up in Canada, surrounded by nature. Since the outdoors have always been where she feels the most at peace (and draws a lot of her inspiration from), she always felt a moral responsibility to preserve and protect it as best as she could. Sasha grew up in the fashion world and has an extensive background in the industry, with over 13 years living abroad working as a fashion model in cities such as Milan, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, and New York. Her love for fashion began much earlier than that, however, and over the years, getting to work with big names such as Vogue, Karl Lagerfeld, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel, she had ample time to hone her eye for quality and design. In the past, if you wanted to choose fashion that preserved our planet, you often had to sacrifice style. Sasha knew she wanted to change that so she could have both. So armed with a passion, moral regard for the planet, and a lot of hard work, Sashū the Label was finally introduced into the world.

Sashū’s collections are always produced in small batch orders, 50 pieces or less. And in some cases, designed made to order to cut back on excessive waste. We work incredibly closely with our manufacturers and ensure we employ men and women who are paid fair wages, work in bright, clean, healthy conditions, and only work for 8 hours a day or less. On top of this, all our factories have a hard stop at 8 pm daily, meaning all power sources are directly turned off so as not to produce excessive emissions and pollutants. Our price point reflects the quality of our garments, and we use only pure sustainable fabrics such as cashmere, wool, cotton, linen, silk, tencel etc. Our styles are timeless, minimalistic, and made slow ensuring quality over quantity. This means that you can keep Sashū pieces in your wardrobe season after season transforming each article to be dressed up or down and mixed with other clothing to ensure the wearer gets the most out of the garment.

We truly hope you enjoy your Sashū attire as much as we do, knowing that each time you choose sustainability, you decide to help keep our planet clean and thriving for not only us but our future generations. Thank you for choosing sustainable fashion, and thank you for choosing Sashū.
